Grab The Meic: How Do I Finish My Relationship?

This week we are running a special relationship campaign on Meic. This is just one of a few articles published on the subject this week. Take a look at the news section for more.

A young person has grabbed the Meic to ask advice on how to finish a relationship with their girlfriend. Here’s what we had to say.

Hi Meic,

How can I break up with my girlfriend and not hurt her feelings?

Thanks

Meic’s advice

Hi,

Breaking up with someone is never easy and it’s understandable that you don’t want to hurt your girlfriend’s feelings. I can hear that you’re a really caring person and that you want to make your break-up as painless as possible for her.

It might be an idea to think about when you’re going to tell her and also what you’re going to say. Sometimes young people find that it helps to tell their boyfriend/girlfriend in person and at a time when it’s quiet and private. Most people find that being honest is the most important thing.

Further information

Read ‘Dumping Your Boyfriend or Girlfriend’ on BBC Advice for some advice or if you’ve been dumped how about ‘Getting Over Your Ex’.

The Mix has lots of support and advice for under 25’s. Read ‘How to break up with someone’ in their Sex and Relationships section.

Brook, the sexual health and wellbeing service for under 25’s, also has a section on breaking up, with advice on whether you should finish with someone, how to finish with someone and how to deal with a break-up.

We hope this helps.
