Meic’s Advice
Hi Taylor, thank you for contacting Meic.
Family relationships can be difficult, and it sounds like you are having some issues with this at the moment. When people around us are moody, it can be upsetting, frustrating, confusing and we might not know how to react. While it can be hard to deal with other people’s feelings, it’s important to remember that everyone struggles with managing their mood sometimes. We can’t necessarily change how someone else is feeling or how they behave, but we can control how we respond and make life easier for ourselves and the other person.
Things to try
You might feel annoyed and want to show your mum that her behaviour is annoying you, but consider how you might feel if someone reacted that way to you. You might feel worse, and it could lead to an argument. When someone else is moody, it can help if we try our best to stay calm. If you can stay calm when your mum is being moody, it might help your mum stay calm too.
You might be able to talk to your mum about it if you are both calm. If you don’t feel able to talk face to face, you could try writing down your thoughts and sharing them that way. Remember to be kind and treat other people as you would like to be treated.
It’s completely normal to feel annoyed with others if they are being moody. But if we can respond with patience and understanding, we can help make things easier for ourselves and others.
